“I believe that every single event in life that happens is an opportunity to choose love over fear.” – Oprah Winfrey
As we move through this life, challenges come and go, often unexpectedly. How we respond or react makes a huge difference in what the outcome is, and it starts with our mindset.
There is a saying that F.E.A.R stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. Well, I’ve changed it. In my world it’s now Fucked Up Energy Acting Ridiculous. Because it is. We kind of lose it.
When we are afraid, we can make bad decisions, think in the short-term, and our brain practically shuts down to where it’s hard to think at all. We must catch the fear showing up, reframe, and replace the fear thought with a statement of empowerment.
The feeling of fear is real. I am not invalidating that. But we can recognize that what we are afraid of may be blown up; maybe we are catastrophizing, or jumping to conclusions, or not exploring options. Maybe we are isolating and trying to figure out alone instead of collaborating or getting support. Maybe we are worrying about something that hasn’t happened yet, and probably never will.
As an entrepreneur, we feel fear every damn day. But, whether you own your own business or not, feeling the fear and doing it anyway is required to help us reach our dreams. No one told us life, relationships or business, was going to be easy or free from being scared.
The bigger we dream, sometimes the scarier it can get. We must believe in ourselves and trust that our higher self knows what’s best. And I believe it helps to also believe in the Universe; that a power greater than us is working on our behalf to help us through this life. It probably looks different than you ever imagined, but then again, it can also be even better than you ever dreamed of. Hard to believe when you are in the thick of it, but believe we must.
The following is an excerpt from my new book, Burn, to be released February 2025:
“Fear has been a constant companion in my life that I have had to simultaneously make friends with and accept it’s going to come up, and fight against it. But it doesn’t need to make the decisions, or be in charge. We can’t expect to never be afraid. But we can learn to recognize it, accept how we feel, take a deep breath, let it go, and take a step forward and not allow ourselves to get stuck and wallow in fear. Instead, we can choose to move through it. Because on the other side of fear, is freedom.
If we can believe that what is meant for us will always find us, we can relax into knowing it will all be okay. We will be okay. By okay, I don’t mean so-so. I mean way beyond okay. When we live in the energy of fear, we attract more things to fear. Anxiety sees anxiety. Fear sees fear. Worry attracts more things to be worried about. We can’t manifest from a place of fear. We can only manifest from a place of love.
Choosing love over fear takes courage and bravery. Courage sees courage. When we truly believe that what is in the highest good for us is the highest good for all, we make different decisions. We step out of fear into our own power.
So let’s get present in our own bodies, minds, and hearts, and face fear head-on. You don’t have to do it alone. Let’s do it together.
